Roadside Abundance
The roadside fruit stand is a Hawaiian institution: hand-lettered signs, wooden crates, and often a coffee can for money and nobody watching it. What is on the table is simply what ripened that week.
Apple bananas are shorter and tangier than the ones in a mainland grocery store, and once you have had one warm off the stand it is hard to go back.
