Slippahs at the Door
Shoes come off at the door, always, and the step becomes a record of who is inside. In Hawaiʻi rubber slippers are called slippahs, and a good pair is worn until the sole is thin as paper.
This is one of the first things visitors learn and one of the last things anyone from here would ever forget.
