Star Apple

Caimito — star apple — is a glossy purple globe hiding a star of translucent seeds inside. Its leaves shimmer green above and gold beneath, so the whole tree glows in the wind.

It arrived from the Caribbean and became an orchard favorite; island fruit stands sell it cut in half, spooned like a soft-boiled egg of sweetness.
