Puʻu Kekaʻa

“The rumbling hill” — Black Rock at Kāʻanapali

Kāʻanapali's lava headland, Puʻu Kekaʻa, was a leaping place of souls — a spot where spirits stepped off into the next world. Each evening a cliff diver lights the torches along its edge and leaps into the sea, honoring the high chief Kahekili, who made that same leap fearlessly long ago.

Snorkelers drift around its base, where turtles and reef fish gather in the clear blue.
