Mākena
“Abundance”
Mākena means “abundance,” and the long sweep of Big Beach earns the name. Rising behind it is Puʻu Ōlaʻi, a cinder cone born of Maui's most recent volcanic activity, and the shore break here is famous enough that locals treat it with real respect.
