Honu in Falling Light

Honu in Falling Light

Honu — green sea turtle, a symbol of long life and safe passage

A honu rises through a curtain of falling sunbeams, wings spread wide as if the water itself were sky. Tiny yellow tangs scatter from the coral as the old turtle glides over their garden, unhurried and at home.

Honu can rest for hours beneath the light like this, letting the ocean carry them. To see one rising through the rays is to understand why Hawaiians read the turtle as a blessing for the day ahead.
