Hāhālua Barrel Roll
Hāhālua — manta ray, the broad-winged gentle giant
A hāhālua sweeps upward and turns in one graceful barrel roll, guiding a stream of plankton toward its open mouth. Sunlight travels across the white markings beneath its enormous wings.
The motion looks playful, but it is precise feeding shaped by current and instinct. Near Kauaʻi, the manta makes a wide blue ocean feel like a ballroom.
