Ulua at the Niʻihau Drop-Off
Ulua — a powerful trevally of the open blue
At the edge of Niʻihau's reef, an ulua leaves the sunlit ledge and crosses the first great wall of blue. Light flickers over its silver flanks while smaller fish hold close to the volcanic rock.
Strong, alert, and perfectly at home over deep water, the ulua carries the steady presence of a reef guardian. One slow turn brings it back toward the bright shallows.
