Lauʻīpala Sun Garden

Lauʻīpala — yellow tang, a golden grazer of Hawaiian reefs

Morning gathers a flowing school of lauʻīpala over a sunlit patch reef near Kauaʻi. Their lemon-gold bodies brighten the blue as they graze algae from coral and old lava.

Each small bite helps keep space open for healthy reef growth. Moving together through the clear shallows, the yellow tangs look like sunlight scattered into living pieces.
