Manō at Rest
Manō — shark, a respected guardian in many Hawaiian families
Inside a broad lava alcove at Molokini, a whitetip manō settles onto clean sand. Turquoise light pours through the opening while small reef fish pass beyond its pale-tipped fins.
Unlike many sharks, whitetips can rest while water continues moving across their gills. The quiet shelter is part bedroom, part lookout — a familiar place within the reef's daily rhythm.
