Pūpū and Sea Glass

Pūpū — shells

The tide leaves a changing little museum at the edge of the foam: pūpū, sea glass, worn coral and stones polished smooth by years of turning. Nothing is arranged, and somehow everything is exactly where it belongs.

The kindest beachcombing begins with looking. Occupied shells stay with the shore, coral stays with the reef, and the real treasure is often the minute spent kneeling in warm light to notice what the ocean carried in.
