Uhaloa
ʻUhaloa — the small golden-flowered throat plant
Soft gray-green leaves and tiny golden flowers make ʻuhaloa easy to overlook beside a sunny path. Its bitter root, however, has a long and memorable place in Hawaiian throat care.
Traditional-style tea: only with confident plant identification, scrub a small piece of root, lightly crush it, and steep it in hot water before straining and adding honey. A traditional practitioner may instead guide the chewing of fresh root; seek medical care for a severe or lasting sore throat.
