ʻUlu — a generous tree of nourishing food
Round ʻulu hangs beneath enormous rain-polished leaves, turning one tree into a season of generous meals. Its soft cooked flesh has sustained island families across generations.
Simple recipe: roast a mature ʻulu until tender, peel it carefully, and cut the flesh into wedges. Spoon warm coconut milk over the top with a small pinch of salt.
