Lemongrass
Lūkini — an introduced lemon-scented garden grass
Lūkini sends a bright citrus fragrance into the air when its rain-wet blades are brushed. Though introduced to Hawaiʻi, it has become a beloved kitchen-garden comfort.
Simple recipe: carefully cut and bruise the pale base of a clean lemongrass stalk, steep it in hot water for several minutes, and strain. Add honey or lemon if desired; handle the sharp-edged leaves with care.
