Spanish Dancer

Spanish Dancer

The reef's great red skirt

The Spanish dancer is the largest nudibranch in the world, up to sixteen inches of crimson ruffle, and it earns its name by unfurling its mantle and swimming with slow flamenco undulations when it is disturbed. Its bright red is a warning: it tastes terrible on purpose.
