The Living Cape

The Living Cape

A female blanket octopus can spread shimmering webs between her arms, turning herself into a great rippling cape. She may unfurl it to appear enormous when danger comes near.

This species has one of nature's most astonishing size differences: a female may be thousands of times heavier than a male. The open ocean still holds surprises stranger than imagination.
