The Sponge That Blinked

The Sponge That Blinked

The Commerson's frogfish can match the color and texture of a sponge so well that its eye may be the first clue. A modified spine above its mouth works like a fishing rod with a tiny lure.

Its mouth can expand to swallow prey nearly its own size in a fraction of a second. The reef's funniest face belongs to one of its quickest hunters.
