Weke Sandstorm

Weke Sandstorm

Weke — goatfish, golden foragers with sensitive chin barbels

A flock of weke sweeps low over the sea floor, whisking their long chin barbels through the sand in search of small bites. Wherever they dig, the bottom erupts into a storm of glowing golden dust.

The sunlight pours down through turquoise water and turns every grain into a spark. It looks like mischief, but it is careful work — the goatfish are tending the reef floor the way farmers tend a field.
