Backyard Abundance

Backyard Abundance

A tropical garden rarely harvests one thing at a time. Papaya ripens while apple bananas turn gold, lilikoʻi drops from the vine, and tender greens wait in the shade below taller plants.

The basket carries dinner, breakfast and flowers for the table. Good soil is precious on lava, so compost returns to the beds and each season's abundance begins with what the last one left behind.
