Ānuenue over the Bay

Ānuenue over the Bay

Ānuenue — rainbow

Island rain can arrive while the sun is still shining, a silver curtain crossing one end of the bay while the other stays bright. When the light catches it at just the right angle, an ānuenue rises from sea to cloud before anyone has time to go inside.

Rainbows in Hawaiʻi are woven into stories as pathways, signs and bridges between realms. On an ordinary afternoon they are also a reminder to stop what you are doing, look up, and let weather become wonder.
