Kalamungay — the “miracle tree” of island home gardens
Used for: everyday nourishment — the leaves are rich in vitamins A and C, calcium, iron and protein, and are a beloved greens for new mothers in Filipino families in Hawaiʻi.
How to use: strip a handful of fresh leaflets from the stems and stir them into chicken-ginger soup (tinola) or mung bean stew in the last minute of cooking. Pregnant people should avoid the root and bark.
