Popolo

Used for: respiratory trouble, cuts and skin sores, and general strengthening. One of the great la'au lapa'au plants, often paired with 'uhaloa.

How to use: the ripe leaves are cooked like greens or steeped as a tea for the lungs; crushed leaves are laid on a cut or a boil. Only the fully ripe black berries were eaten — the green ones never were.
