Kalo
Used for: nourishment for babies, elders, and anyone recovering — famously easy on the stomach — plus insect bites and small wounds.
How to use: the corm is always cooked, never raw, then pounded into poi; a thin poi is one of the gentlest first foods there is. Cooked leaves (luau) are eaten as greens, and the sap from a cut stalk was dabbed on a bite or scratch to stop the sting and bleeding.
