Kaihalulu
“Roaring sea”
Kaihalulu means "roaring sea" — and outside the lava wall, it does roar. Inside, a natural wall of black rock keeps a calm turquoise lagoon.
The sand is red because it comes from the iron-rich cinder cone of Kaʻuiki Hill, crumbling slowly into the bay.
