Kokiʻo Keʻokeʻo

Kokiʻo Keʻokeʻo

“Kokiʻo keʻokeʻo” — the white native hibiscus

Kokiʻo keʻokeʻo is one of the very few hibiscus in the world with a fragrance, and it is native to Hawaiʻi. The scent is light and clean, easy to miss unless you lean in.

The white petals fold like fabric around a long slender column of stamens, and the whole flower lasts a single day before letting go.

Several native Hawaiian hibiscus are endangered, kept alive in botanical gardens and restoration plantings. This bloom is a small argument for protecting what only grows in one place.
