ʻUaʻu Kani — the wedge-tailed shearwater
At sunset, ʻUaʻu Kani banks so low that one wingtip nearly writes upon the water. Its Hawaiian name remembers the calling voice heard near nesting burrows after dark, a wild evening chorus carried over the dunes.
