Puhi — the eel

Puhi, the moray eel, breathes by opening and closing its mouth, which is why it always looks menacing when it is simply resting. Some Hawaiian families kept the puhi as an ʻaumakua, a guardian spirit, and cleaner shrimp will walk right into those jaws to pick the teeth clean.
