Shake It Off

Shake It Off

Release the tension

Most of us have bodies that are holding tension right now. It can show up as tight muscles, shallow breathing, a racing heart, or that feeling of always being “on.” Being “on” is great for getting things done, but it’s not so great for healing, sleeping, or having the spaciousness to simply be present.

Have you ever watched a dog come out of the water and instinctively shake its whole body? Animals don’t think about it. They just shake. Our bodies have a natural relationship with movement too, and shaking can help loosen that built-up tension.

TECHNIQUE — Stand up and start by shaking out your hands. Add your arms and shoulders, then your legs and whole body. Let your neck stay loose and gently shake your head from side to side. Keep going for a minute or two.

Then become completely still.

Take a slow breath and notice what has changed.

Sometimes you just need to shake it off.

Mālie. Calm. Quiet. Still. Serene. Come back to calm.
