Hāpuʻu Nui

Hāpuʻu Nui

“The great tree fern”

Hāpuʻu grow slowly and unfurl like they are being unrolled by hand. Each young frond arrives curled tight as a fiddlehead, then opens toward whatever light the canopy allows. Hawaiians called their soft golden fuzz pulu, and it was gathered for pillows.
