Lychee
Chinese merchant Ching Chock planted Hawaii's first lychee tree in Honolulu around 1873, and that 'Kwai Mi' tree became the parent of island orchards.
Lychee season lasts only a few weeks in early summer, and the fruit is still mostly sold tree-to-neighbor.
