“Rising sun”
The sun comes around the corner of the porch at the same hour every morning and lays one warm stripe across the old boards. He has known about it his whole life, and he has never once missed it.
Hibiscus at the railing, mountain mist beyond, dust turning slowly in the light — and a dog doing the single most sensible thing available on a Hawaiian morning.
