Hawaiian Turkeyfish Fan

Hawaiian Turkeyfish Fan

Hawaiʻi's endemic turkeyfish, found nowhere else on Earth

Over a sunlit ledge, the Hawaiian turkeyfish spreads its pectoral fins into a living fan. Fine rays, russet bands, and translucent spots turn a patient hunter into one of the reef's most ornate silhouettes.

This species belongs to Hawaiʻi alone. Suspended in clear water above the coral, it is both fierce and fragile — a reminder of how much wonder can evolve around distant islands.
