Lotus
“Pua līpoa lani” — rising clean from the mud
The lotus grows out of mud and pond silt and arrives at the surface immaculate, which is why it has meant renewal in so many places for so long.
Its leaves shed water completely — drops bead up and roll off, leaving nothing behind.
Temple ponds and taro-country gardens in Hawaiʻi grow them, blooming in the heat of summer, one flower at a time.
