African Tulip
“Pua ʻulaʻula lani” — flame of the valley
The African tulip tree lights the wet valleys with cups of orange that glow when the sun comes through them.
The unopened buds hold water, and children have always known you can squeeze them like little water pistols.
It grows fast and freely here — a bold, generous flower that asks nobody's permission to bloom.
