Heʻe pūloa — the long-armed night octopus
Twilight settles over the reef, and a heʻe pūloa lifts from the dark basalt. Its slender arms unfurl in every direction, striped with pale patterns that seem to hold the evening's final glow.
Soon this graceful hunter will belong to the night. For now, it hovers between blue and gold — a quiet bridge from the reef we see by day to the one that wakes after sunset.
