Hāhālua — “two breaths”
At night the boat lights draw plankton, and the plankton draw hāhālua. A manta feeding will loop and barrel-roll through the cloud with its cephalic fins unfurled into a funnel, and it will do this for hours, quietly, an animal with a fourteen-foot wingspan behaving like a leaf in a current.
