The Golden Current

Pyramid butterflyfish gather in large schools above steep reef slopes, where currents deliver clouds of plankton. Unlike many butterflyfish, they spend much of the day feeding in open water rather than picking at coral.

Their pale bodies and yellow fins make the whole school flash as it turns. Hundreds of separate decisions become one flowing golden shape.
