Naiʻa — the dolphin
Hawaiian spinner dolphins — naiʻa — hunt in the deep all night and spend their days resting in shallow sandy bays, where the pale bottom helps them spot sharks. They sleep half a brain at a time, always half awake, and earn their name by leaping and spinning up to four times in a single jump.
